Breast Reduction
Breast reduction is a surgical procedure to decrease breast size, and it is often performed on women who suffer physical discomfort as a result of large, heavy breasts. After having a breast reduction procedure, patients enjoy relief from lifelong back and neck pain caused by their large breasts. Additionally, many patients enjoy an array of wardrobe choices that were never available before due to their large bust sizes.
Dr. Arnold Breitbart most commonly performs minimal scar breast reduction surgery at his Long Island and New York City offices, keeping the scar well-concealed around the areola and under the breast. During surgery, Dr. Breitbart removes any excess tissue, fat, and skin and repositions the areola to create a smaller, shapelier breast.
Patients are typically able to return to work within one to two weeks, but should avoid lifting anything heavy for about a month. Breast reduction surgery can be combined with a breast lift for more dramatic results.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Breast lift, also called mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that can raise the breasts to a higher position. Breast lift may be ideal for women whose breasts have begun to sag as a result of gravity and aging, or those who have lost breast volume due to pregnancy.
During the breast lift procedure at his Manhattan and Long Island offices in New York, Dr. Arnold Breitbart tries to minimize scarring, keeping the incision around the areola and below the breast. Excess skin is then removed and the nipple is brought to a higher, more normal position.
Many patients choose to have breast augmentation performed in conjunction with a breast lift in order to add more breast volume. Patients should discuss their aesthetic goals with Dr. Breitbart to determine the most appropriate approach to surgery. After breast lift surgery, patients enjoy firmer, fuller, shapelier breasts. Additionally, breast lift surgery is relatively safe.

Breast Implant Revision
Dr. Breitbart also performs breast implant revision on patients who have had breast implant surgery done elsewhere and have an unsatisfactory result. Breast implant revision surgery may involve placement of new implants or removal of scar tissue, in order to achieve the best possible result.
Correction of Inverted Nipples
Inverted nipples can cause functional problems and emotional concerns for patients with this problem. Dr. Breitbart typically performs surgery for correction of inverted nipples under local anesthesia as an outpatient office procedure. The recovery time is generally just a few days or less and the results quite satisfying.
Breast Reconstruction Surgery
Breast reconstruction surgery is commonly performed at our Manhattan and Long Island offices on patients following mastectomy, or breast removal due to cancer. Breast reconstruction surgery after a mastectomy can help restore a woman’s sense of femininity and self-confidence.
The procedure is typically performed one of two ways. In one procedure, a balloon expander is inserted behind the breast tissue and pectoral muscles to stretch the skin, allowing room for later placement of an implant. Another option for breast reconstruction surgery involves tissue taken from other parts of the body that are then transplanted to the chest and sculpted to create the new breast.
Dr. Arnold Breitbart will usually complete breast reconstruction surgery over time. Once the breast has been reconstructed, a second procedure typically follows for insertion of the implant or later creation of the nipple and areola.
Patients may remain in the hospital for a couple of days following breast reconstruction surgery and are usually sore for a week or two. Stitches are typically removed within seven to ten days. Patients should plan to spend about a month recovering from surgery before returning to work.

Gynecomastia Surgery
Gynecomastia, or large male breasts, can be treated with breast reduction to remove excess breast tissue and skin to create a firm, flat, and more masculine contoured chest.
During the procedure Dr. Arnold Breitbart will create an incision on the edge of the areola. Excess tissue, fat, and skin are then removed and the incisions sutured. Liposuction is usually used in conjunction with gynecomastia surgery to finely sculpt the breast and eliminate any excess fat.
Patients can usually return to work within a few days after surgery.
