Tummy Tuck For Men

A tummy tuck greatly enhances the appearance of the abdomen area by creating a flat and toned abdomen. Many men have found that despite regular exercise and a proper diet, they still have a protruding abdomen or loose skin, which can be caused due to natural aging, weight fluctuations, heredity, and previous surgery. Hence, tummy tuck surgery or abdominoplasty is very appealing. Reducing excess fat and skin, a tummy tuck creates a smooth and firm abdomen with improved muscle definition.

Tummy Tuck Candidates

Tummy tuck surgery generally has long lasting results as long as the patient does not have dramatic fluctuations in weight. The best patients for this procedure are healthy, with a stable weight, do not smoke, and have realistic expectations of tummy tuck surgery results. During consultation with Dr. Breitbart, patients discuss their concerns, while sharing their medical history, previous surgeries, and desired outcome. He will explain the procedure to you in depth and offer you pre-surgery and post-surgical care information.

Tummy Tuck Procedure

Like other forms of cosmetic surgery, tummy tuck surgery is a highly personal choice. Always discuss your desired goal and all risks and complications associated with the surgery prior to undergoing the procedure. The surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Breitbart will make a low incision on your abdomen, which can be hidden by your underwear or bathing suit. Excess skin and fatty tissue are then removed and the muscle and skin are tightened.

Recovery From Tummy Tuck

Patients usually go home the day of surgery. In some cases, such as when abdominoplasty is combined with other procedures, the patient may stay overnight. Most patients are back to work within 1-2 weeks. Patients should take it easy and avoid rigorous physical activity for a few weeks.

Tummy Tuck Results

You will immediately see dramatic results with a flatter and more contoured abdomen that is flattering and in proportion with your body type and natural weight. As continued healing occurs over the next few months, and all swelling resolves, your appearance will continue to improve. If you are unhappy with the contour of your midsection, and dieting and exercise have failed to get rid of unwanted skin and flab around your stomach, Dr. Breitbart can help you achieve your goals.

Tummy tuck for men FAQs

Tummy Tuck For Men FAQs

When can I start exercising after abdominoplasty?

Moderate exercise can usually be resumed within 1-2 weeks. More vigorous exercise, such as running, heavy lifting, and abdominal strength exercises, can be started 4-6 weeks after surgery.

Is there much pain after abdominoplasty?

For most patients, the pain is not severe, may last a few days, and is usually well-controlled with pain medication during this time. Most patients are ready to return to work and resume their daily activities within 1-2 weeks.

How long does it take to see the final result?

You will notice the dramatic improvement in your tummy shape immediately after surgery. There may be slight to moderate swelling, however, which will gradually subside over the next several weeks.

Should I be at my ideal weight before having an abdominoplasty?

Patients close to their ideal weight will have the best possible tummy shape after abdominoplasty. Even patients that are moderately overweight can benefit from an abdominoplasty, since the surgery will remove the excess hanging skin and fat, and tighten the tummy. Many of these patients will find it easier to be more active after a tummy tuck, and can go on to lose even more weight. Patients who are severely overweight are usually best served by weight reduction prior to the tummy tuck. At your consultation, Dr. Breitbart will let you know if you are a good candidate for a tummy tuck.
